VALLEJO – The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) has scheduled a meeting next month to allow residents to receive information about the future of the Franklin Recreation Center Park, located at the former Franklin Middle School site, the district announced on Monday.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, December 4, at 6:30 p.m. at 401 Amador Street.
“Community input is vital to ensure the new Franklin Recreation Center Park reflects the needs and aspirations of Vallejo residents,” said GVRD General Manager Gabe Lanusse in the same announcement. “We’re excited to collaborate with the community as we turn this vision into reality.”

Facilitated by Callander & Associates, the Vallejo community will be able to get its first look at the conceptual plan and design for the proposed park, which will include a new turf field, multi-use open space, a playground, new pathways, pickleball and basketball courts, parking lot and picnic area, the Vallejo Times-Herald reported in October 2023.
GVRD received a $7 million state grant from the California State Parks Office of Grants and Local Services to fund updating the campus, located at 501 Starr Ave, which closed in 2020 due to low student enrollment.
