Vallejo Vice Mayor History (2009-2024)

The Vice Mayor is selected amongst the members of the Vallejo City Council each January. In addition to their council duties as a member of the council, the vice mayor performs the duties of mayor during the mayor’s absence or disability.

Mina Loera-Diaz

2024
Represents District 3 – Glen Cove since January 2021.
Vallejo City Councilwoman: 2021 — Present

Loera-Diaz was elected to the Vallejo City Council in 2020 to represent the newly created District 3 – Glen Cove. She unsuccessfully ran for city council in November 2016 – placing 5th out of three available seats. Loera-Diaz is a real estate agent and founded the community organization Diaz & Loera Centro Latino in Vallejo. Her term ends in January 2025. She announced that she would not be seeking re-election.

Rozzana Verder-Aliga

2023, 2022, 2021 and 2016
Represents District 1 – Hiddenbrooke and Northgate since January 2021.
Vallejo City Councilwoman: 2014 — Present

Verder-Aliga was first elected to the Vallejo City Council in 2013 to complete the remaining portion of Erin Hannigan’s 2011 term. Verder-Aliga was re-elected to a full term in 2016 and was elected to represent District 1 – Hiddenbrooke/Northgate in November 2020. Verder-Aliga’s current term ends in January 2025. She was elected to the Vallejo school board in 1993, serving for 12 years, and in 2007 she was elected to the Solano County Board of Education, serving for six years.

Hermie Sunga

Vallejo City Councilman: 2006 — 2014; 2017 — 2020

Sunga served on the Vallejo City Council from 2016 to 2020. He was previously termed out of office after serving two terms from 2005 to 2014.

Pippin Dew

Vallejo City Councilwoman: 2014 — 2022

Pippin Dew was first elected to the Vallejo City Council in 2013 and Dew was re-elected to the council in 2018 with 16,471 votes. Dew has represented Vallejo on the League of California Cities, an association of city officials working together to combine resources. Dew, who has pushed for an early learning center for South Vallejo, was termed out of office in 2022.

Katy Miessner

Vallejo City Councilwoman: 2014 — 2022

Katy Miessner was first elected to the Vallejo City Council in 2013. A local artist, Miessner served on the Vallejo Waterfront Coalition, and was also opposed to a 2003 proposal to build a liquefied natural gas plant on Mare Island. Miessner was re-elected to the council with 18,093 votes in 2018. She was termed out of office in 2022. Miessner ran unsuccessfully for Solano County supervisor in 2012.

Robert McConnell

Councilman: 2012 — 2020

Robert McConnell was elected mayor in November 2020 after serving two terms on the Vallejo City Council in 2011 and 2016. Prior to be elected to the council, McConnell served eight years on the city’s planning commission. Due to the city’s term limits, McConnell will leave the council when his term ends in January 2025.

Jess Malgapo

Vallejo City Councilman: 2013 — 2018

Jess Malgapo was appointed to the Vallejo City Council in 2013 following the resignation of Erin Hannigan, who was elected to the Solano County Board of Supervisors in November 2012. Malgapo was elected to a full term on the city council in November 2013. He lost his re-election bid in 2018.

Bob Sampayan

Councilman: 2012 — 2016

Bob Sampayan was elected mayor in 2016 after being first elected to the Vallejo City Council in 2011. Sampayan declined to seek a second mayoral term in November 2020. Sampayan is a retired sergeant with the Vallejo Police Department.

Vallejo City Councilwoman: 2006 — 2013

Stephanie Gomes was first elected to the Vallejo City Council in November 2005 and was reelected in November 2009 before being termed out of office in January 2014.
