VALLEJO – The city experienced more than 400 domestic violence cases in 2025 as Vallejo saw a 38 percent increase in cases between January and October over the same timeframe in 2024, according to unverified data released by Vallejo police.
Police said the increase could climb to 42 percent when data from November and December 2025 is added. Police are projecting 547 cases for the year, which would the highest total since there were 563 cases in 2021.
Vallejo Police Chief Jason Ta is scheduled to present the data to the three-person public safety subcommittee of the Vallejo City Council, which will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, January 7 inside the Vallejo Room, located on the lower floor of the John F. Kennedy Public Library.
The subcommittee is composed of councilmembers, Tonia Lediju (District 3), Alexander Matias (District 1) and Charles Palmares (District 4).

According to the data, partner-on-partner violence was the most reported type of domestic violence case, exceeding 50 percent.
“The majority of the reported domestic violence cases were between unmarried current
partners (boyfriend/girlfriend),” according to Vallejo police. “In 2024, 45% of the reported domestic violence cases were between unmarried current partners, those cases increased to 51% in 2025.”
Additional data showed that the bulk of victims were female as they represented 372 cases between January to October 2025 with 36 percent of all victims being between 30 to 39 years old. The next highest age range of victims was 18 to 29 with 32 percent.
The subcommittee will be asked to give direction to city staff following the presentation.
“The growing frequency of these incidents prompted the department to conduct
a deeper review of domestic violence data from both years,” police said in the same presentation. “The goal of this analysis was to identify trends that could help the department better support victims and reduce the occurrence of these crimes.”
The subcommittee will meet inside the Vallejo Room (Lower-Level JFK Library), 505 Santa Clara Street in downtown Vallejo. Members of the public will be able to participate in-person or remotely via Zoom.
