VALLEJO – California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on October 22 that he appointed 12 new judges across the state, including naming Yolo County criminal defense attorney Wendy R. Casas as a judge in the Solano County Superior Court.

Casas replaces Judge Christine A. Carringer, who retired in August after serving 12 years on the bench and 26 years as a trial lawyer. Carringer was appointed to the Solano County Superior Court bench by Gov. Jerry Brown in 2013.

Casas isn’t stranger to Solano County as she served as deputy public defender within the Solano County Public Defender’s Office from 2007 to 2018, according to an announcement from the governor’s office. Prior to that she was a deputy public defender at the Kern County Public Defender’s Office from 2005 to 2007.

She has served as a solo practitioner at the Law Office of Wendy Casas since 2018. Casas received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law.

Casas is registered as a Democrat, the governor’s office said. She, along with the other judicial appointees will make $244,727.

Meanwhile, Carringer was hired at Judicate West, which provides private dispute resolution services. She will serve as a mediator, arbitrator and private judge, according to a September 15, 2025, announcement from Judicate West.

“She is widely respected as a good listener, a patient and trustworthy fact-finder, and an all-star jurist. Judge Carringer also has a deep appreciation for the importance of civility and professionalism in every interaction, qualities that will undoubtedly benefit our clients. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Judicate West family, said Rosemarie Chiusano Aubert, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Co-Founder of Judicate West, in the same news release.
