VALLEJO – A former Vallejo police officer settled a lawsuit in April of this for $10,000 after alleging he was subjected to discrimination by the city of Vallejo, according to a side settlement agreement obtained by JohnGlidden.com via a public records request.
Officer Ronald Dupree was released from his probationary status with the police department on March 13, 2025, about a year after he was arrested in Richmond for alleged domestic violence, threats and stalking his ex-girlfriend.
Dupree’s original claim, filed on April 4, 2025, weeks after he was dismissed, also alleged that the city violated the Peace Officer Bill of Rights, and California Electronic Communications Privacy Act (CalECPA).
However, the city released a heavily redacted copy of the claim on Thursday. Sixteen of the 17 pages are completely black with the city stating in its response to the records request that this was done because “release of such peace officer personnel record would be a violation of the law.”
Records show that in August 2025, Dupree filed a claim with the California Civil Rights Department (CRD) alleging the same violations in his claims with the city.
A separate settlement agreement with the CRD stipulates that the city’s police department command staff, along with sworn officer staff, will receive “a minimum two-hour, in-person training not provided before on the Fair Employment Housing Act (FEHA), Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights Act (POBR), the California Electronic Communications Privacy Act (CalECPA), and whistleblower protections…”
“A minimum of an hour of this training shall be spent on addressing the protected categories, discrimination, harassment and retaliation under FEHA,” the CRD further states.
The city stated in the release of claims that Dupree filed several other complaints against the city, alleging additional improprieties including wage theft. However, those additional claims were not provided to JohnGlidden.com in its initial records request.
Dupree was serving his second stint with Vallejo police when he was arrested on Feb. 14, 2024, after his ex-girlfriend alleged that Dupree repeatedly called her and attempted to contact her over social media to rekindle their relationship, Oakland police said at the time.
The woman also alleged that Dupree threatened her, claiming that he knew how to dispose of a body, police said at the time.
Dupree was originally hired by Vallejo police in March 2020 before leaving to take another law enforcement job in August 2023. He was then re-hired by Vallejo police in October 2023 before being released in March 2025.
