About

In response to the number of job cuts to the local newspaper by an out-of-town corporate owner, John Glidden decided to launch JohnGlidden.com in August 2020 to stop the creation of a news desert in his native Vallejo.

During the first year of JohnGlidden.com, John broke a number of important stories including the push to name Mike Malone as city manager, and about the sudden disappearance of then-City Manager Greg Nyhoff, who would go on to leave the city organization.

In early 2021, JohnGlidden.com also documented the retirement of Vallejo Police Lt. Kenny Park, who infamously declared during a March 2015 press conference that the abduction of Denise Huskins from her then-boyfriend Aaron Quinn’s Mare Island home was not a kidnapping. In fact, Denise had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted by Matthew Muller, a disbarred Harvard University-trained attorney.

Determined to bring even more news to the local population, John accepted contributions from regional reporters Scott Morris and Brian Krans. Despite limited funding, all three produced multiple articles each week. Then in September 2021, Scott, Brian and John launched the Vallejo Sun, an independent news publication illuminating Solano County, California.

All three saw a need for in-depth reporting about local government, policing, and extremist movements in the region. John left the organization in 2023, accepting a job with Solano County. Prior to launching JohnGlidden.com, John worked at the Vallejo Times-Herald newspaper, covering the city of Vallejo, local school district, Vallejo elections, and public safety. He has also written for the Fairfield Daily Republic, The Appeal, and Solano Tempest.
