VALLEJO – The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) Board of Directors has a packed agenda this week as the board is expected to receive an update on the search for a new CEO, while being asked to accept a request from Vallejo Together for use of the Foley Cultural Center, and approval new agreements with two unions.
The board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, August 13.
Chairman Thomas Judt has been tapped to provide an update on the search to permanently replace longtime General Manager Gabe Lanusse, who retired earlier this year. In April, the five-person board named Pamela Sloan as interim GM.
Thursday’s agenda packet does not include a staff report only a quick sentence on the agenda, “Discussion and Possible Action on General Manager Interview Process.”
According to the hiring brochure, the tentatively timeline includes video interviews for August 28 and in-person interviews for September 3.
Fee waiver request from Vallejo Together for Use of Foley Cultural Center
The board will be asked to approve a $1,528 facility fee waiver for Vallejo Together’s 3rd Annual Maria Guevara Gala scheduled for September 18 at the Dan Foley Community Center.
Vallejo Together would still be responsible for $1,150 in non-waivable security and cleaning and damage deposit charges, district officials wrote in a staff report.
“This year’s gala celebrates the legacy of Vallejo Together founder Maria Guevara while
raising funds to sustain and expand the organization’s programs and services. Vallejo
Together anticipates more than 225 guests, which it states would make this its largest
gala to date,” the same staff report states. “According to the applicant, funds saved through the requested sponsorship would be redirected toward outreach, essential services, community engagement, and housing focused initiatives supporting Vallejo residents without shelter.
“The gala is planned to include refreshments, complimentary champagne, keynote speakers, organizational impact updates, community recognition, entertainment, and dancing,” they added.
Board asked to approve MOU’s with unions
The five-person GVRD board is expected to approve separate three-year Memorandums of Understanding with Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1021, and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 1245.
Members of both unions would receive a 3.5% wage increase the first year, with 3% raises during the second and third years of the MOU.
IBEW employees would be eligible for additional compensation equal to 3% of their base wage for each hour worked on homeless encampment cleanup duties, according to staff.
The increases are expected to cost the district about $281,000 in annual recurring costs by the third year of the MOUs.
The GVRD Board of Directors will meet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, inside the Administrative Office, Board Room, 401 Amador Street, Vallejo.
